Vishnu Puran: Audio&Book

The Vishnu Puran is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas, a genre of ancient and medieval texts of Hinduism. It is an important Pancharatra text in the Vaishnavism literature corpus.
The manuscripts of Vishnu Purana have survived into the modern era in many versions. More than any other major Purana, the Vishnu Purana presents its contents in Pancalaksana format – Sarga (cosmogony), Pratisarga (cosmology), Vamsa (mythical genealogy of the gods, sages and kings), Manvantara (cosmic cycles), and Vamsanucaritam (legends during the times of various kings). Some manuscripts of the text are notable for not including sections found in other major Puranas, such as those on Mahatmyas and tour guides on pilgrimage, but some versions include chapters on temples and travel guides to sacred pilgrimage sites.

विष्णु पुराण 18 पुराणों में से एक है, यह पुराण अन्य पुराणों की अपेक्ष यह छोटा है। इसमें अब मात्र सात हजार श्लोक ही पाए जाते हैं। विष्णु पुराण की रचना महर्षि वसिष्ठ के पौत्र और वेदव्यास के पिता पराशर ऋषि ने की है, विष्णु पुराण में भगवान विष्णु और उनके भक्तों के बारे में वर्णन मिलता है जिसमें बहुत ही रोचक कथाएं हैं।
विष्णु पुराण में विष्णु के अवतारों का वर्णन मिलेगा जिसमें श्री कृष्ण चरित्र और राम कथा का विशेष उल्लेख है।
इस पुराण के छह अध्याय है। प्रथम में सृष्टि की उत्पत्ति और काल के स्वरूप के साथ ही ध्रुव, पृथु तथा प्रह्लाद की रोचक कथाएं हैं। द्वितीय में सभी लोकों का स्वरूप वर्णन और पृथ्‍वी के नौ खंडों के साथ ही ग्रह-नक्षत्रों का वर्णन मिलेगा। तृतीय में मन्वन्तर काल, वेद शाखाओं का विस्तार, गृहस्थ धर्म और श्राद्ध-विधि आदि का वर्णन मिलेगा। चतुर्थ में सूर्य वंश और चन्द्र वंश के राजा तथा उनकी वंशावलियों का वर्णन है। पंचम में श्रीकृष्ण चरित्र और उनकी लीलाओं का वर्णन है। अंत में छठे अध्याय में प्रलय तथा मोक्ष का ज्ञान मिलेगा।
